A Letter Home from the Front

And I have laid thee down my love,
In a bed of silk and lace,
And a garland for your hair my love,
And a warm wind for your face,
And I would give you ships my love,
And stars to guide you by,
But will not watch us growing old,
And you will not see me die.

I will not say farewell my love,
But only bid adieu,
As I will always be, my love,
Somewhere close to you,
I will be the warm winds, love,
That dry away your tears,
And I will be forever yours,
Forever,
Through the years.
